Our second son was super into trains right around when he turned two, so I decided to run with that and throw him a little train-themed birthday party! I got him a cute "chugga chugga two! two!" shirt from Etsy, put him in some striped overalls that made him look like a train engineer, and we celebrated the cutest two-year-old!
I found this invitation on Etsy and had to get it! I loved the design and the fact that it came with a printable ticket holder. In addition to the ticket, I add this second part about gifts. So, my son turned two about 2 months before we were moving out of state and across the country to Ohio. Because of this move, we were getting rid of basically everything we owned and knew we wouldn't be able to take any additional toys that the boys would get for their birthdays. My solution was to write this cute little poem about giving snacks, experiences, or gift cards as gifts so my son could get toys or do fun things once we moved. It was seriously the best idea and so fun! He loved getting all the snacks the day of and we definitely used the gift cards/experiences once we moved.
Decorations! I love setting up some decorations, it really starts to feel like a party! For the "arrivals", "departures", and "platform 2" signs I just typed up the letters in huge font, printed them out, and then cut them into individual letters to hang up. I found the birthday banner and paper goods as a set on Amazon, and then the little signs I had around were editable from Etsy. So easy!
I also had out his birthday book so everyone who came could sign it and leave him a birthday message! It is probably my favorite thing we do every year, I really can't wait to see all the pages get filled to the brim by the time he's older and ready to keep it:)
As I mentioned above, I got the paper goods from Amazon. I typed up and printed out the food tent signs using Canva. For the food, I wanted to create an actual train! So I bought disposable pans from the store and lined them up along the table. The front was the engine with the main food (PB&J because it was a party for 2-year-olds and it was definitely my son's favorite food...still is!). The rest of the "cars" were a variety of fruits, veggies, and other snacks. It seriously turned out to be so cute!
Huge shout out to my amazing sister-in-law for the awesome train cake! (@lunacakesco) She seriously is amazing! The whole thing was editable and each "car" was a different flavor. It was so fun and really added a whole new level of fun to our train-themed party!
I didn't do games for this party, just let everyone eat and enjoy each other's company. However, I couldn't send the kids (cousins) home empty-handed! They each got to take home a train whistle to annoy their parents with:) It was such a fun day!
