This "Super Mario" birthday party was "Super" fun! My husband introduced Mario Kart to our boys not too long ago and ever since then, they have absolutely loved all things Mario. My oldest talked about wanting a Mario-themed birthday party months before he even turned 5, so I began planning a super simple, yet super fun, birthday event!
I didn't like any of the Mario birthday invitations I found online, so I decided to create my own. I used a free trial of Canva Pro to create this cute invitation. I'm just excited I was able to use the Super Mario font! It really completed the invitation.
Almost all of the decorations came from the Party City store. I did get a few things from Hobby Lobby, like the little mushrooms and the piranha plant light, but everything else was from Party City. We hung up white balloons to look like clouds and yellow/gold paper plates to look like gold coins.
We had three games set up as stations to make it easier to manage all the kids in our small apartment space. We had the question box memory game, Super Mario character bingo, and Mario Kart set up on the Switch. As the kids played each game, the winners would earn gold coins, just like Mario does! The gold coins were just chocolate coins:) The kids had so much fun earning their coins and playing the different games! I really wanted to set up an obstacle course, similar to what Mario does in the game, but it just wasn't possible in our tiny apartment. It's ok, the kids still had fun:)
Party food is always so fun for me! I love finding on-theme foods! I used Canva to make the food tents and then used the little Mario figurines my son got from his cousin for his birthday as table decorations. I think it all turned out so good! Perfectly on theme and perfect kid-friendly food:)
We have definitely missed having my amazing sister-in-law around since we moved out of state. She seriously makes the most amazing cakes! I know she would have had so much fun with this theme, but because she lives 2,000 miles away, we needed to make our own birthday cake:)
My son wanted a cake of his own, so we made confetti cupcakes for all his friends and a small strawberry cake for him. My husband decorated the cake and I think he did a great job! Especially since it was his first time using fondant.Â
The party favors were super simple! I made these cute tags on Canva and then stapled them to small paper bags filled with gold coins:)
Ok, if you read my "Lord of the Rings" post you know that I really love to crochet! I wanted to do something special for my son...so I decided to crochet him this Mario blanket! It took a long time haha but it is sooo cute! I ended up sewing black and white checkered fabric to the back in honor of Mario Kart and the racing flag:) He was so excited! He absolutely loves the blanket!
